[Monday Motivation] How To Do Things Differently

Doing it differently

"To do things differently, ask things differently" ~ Jenny Kovacs

In 2008 I recognised the stigma attached with a brand new week, often Mondays were met with dread, a feeling of overwhelm and a sense of being stuck or in a grind.

Not the best way to set yourself up for the day, let alone the week!

So I found ways to send motivational messages around the office to lift people up. In 2010 when I started my business, I was really keen to keep this up as a service to those who wanted it.

Today, I hope to bring the motivation to life, by creating the 10 minute space for you to activate your ability to today... Stop putting up with stuff!

____________

This week, I want to start by asking you a question, well two really...

What are you tolerating?

Or put another way,

What are you putting up with?

These questions are especially relevant, if you have big dreams, big plans, big ambitions to do the things in life we love, and this week I've heard a lot of different people, some are friends, some are coaching clients, all people who want to make a change to something in their life. They want to do something different, but somehow have felt like they can't.

This week, I invite you to write this down:

W.W.I.D.D.N.T.

But what unearth does that mean?

This question both empowers and creates new possibilities all rolled into one. So if you have an end goal, big dreams, big plans, big ambitions or even a strategy to execute to get things done in your professional and personal life.

Whatever you've done before, if it hasn't quite worked in the way that you wanted it to, then this question is like the alchemy of questions to do things differently without forcing yourself!

And in a bid to purely acknowledge the elephant in the room, obviously in the last few days we’ve heard a lot of different people, referencing Brexit. So you’ll be pleased (or not), to know that this weeks post has very little to do with that, I thought we could all use a breather to get back into our individual lives.

About W.W.I.D.D.N.T. what does it mean, and why is this a question of new possibility?

I explain more in this weeks Monday Motivational video, you'll also hear a context in which it was used and brings this to life.

I then recommend taking just 5 minutes of pure focussed attention to write down the answers on paper in a journal, a piece of paper or even the back of a envelope! Write it down, it's really important.

W.W.I.D.D.N.T means;

What Will I DDifferently Next Time

Watch this weeks video where I share my own personal experience back in 2010 and you can transform that sinking feeling of when you think you’ve done something ‘ wrong’. Over the years this has also been uber effective in training others to create opportunities, allowing executives to exceed through coaching and moving things forward when I’ve been tempted to wallow.

Take any scenario where you want to explore more possibility or results and ask this vital question, do remember that this is effective when things go ‘right, not just ‘wrong’

Let me know how this question helps you.

Monday Motivation - What Are You Tolerating?

If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito. - Betty Reese

Explore. Dream. Discover.  Written on a card given to me by a friend a year ago

So let's start with those 3 questions, yes you'll have to watch the video at around 3:50 to hear them. I then recommend writing down the answers on paper in a journal, a piece of paper or even the back of a envelope! Write it down, it's really important.

1) Is there a conversation that you need to have and you're avoiding right now? Is it with yourself or someone else or both?

2) What are you pretending not to know?

3) What aren't you being honest about with yourself?

Watch this weeks video to hear about my own personal account of back in 1993 and how I almost stopped myself. This is equally effective for any situation even those more seemingly serious work ones!

Once, and only once you've written down those answers, then go on to describe the situation or outcome you actually want.

Let me know how you use this nugget!

Monday Motivation - Becoming Unstuck

"Sometimes when we're stuck, we need to look backward to move forward" ~ Jenny Kovacs

In 2008 I recognised the stigma attached with a brand new week, often Mondays were met with dread, a feeling of overwhelm and a sense of being stuck.

Not the best way to set yourself up for the day, let alone the week!

Cast your mind back to your aspirations for 2016, where they for more fun, freedom, friends or love? Perhaps you wanted a better career, business or health? You may have wanted to smooth out their relationship with their families of those closest to them?

So you'll likely know that feeling, when you feel stuck right?

Take a moment to think about what you've got in mind for today, and this week, have you got a busy day at work? An awkward situation to deal with?

"Sometimes when we're stuck, we need to look backward to move forward" ~ Jenny Kovacs

Where are you feeling stuck right now?

And it could be something like, clearing out the garage, tackling the kids bedroom, a change of diet, even a change of job!

If you have a few things which spring to mind, pick ONE thing, grab a pen and paper and write down your answers to these questions.

1) Which of those things would make the biggest difference TODAY?

2) What have you tried before which hasn't worked?

3) Ask yourself this question, in order to move forward , what do I need to forgive myself for?

I share my own insights during this weeks 'Facebook LIVE' video and what that means if you're feeling stuck with something and trying to move forward.

In essence, forgiving yourself for the things you think you did 'wrong' can easily be a doorway to propelling yourself forward towards the things you do want.
