[Video Visibility] Why Do Facebook Lives?

When I look at what’s ‘out there’ especially when it comes to Facebook lives, I see hundreds of talented businesses ‘having a go’ at Facebook lives.

Once upon a time I would have gone for 110% perfection, then over time I went in the complete opposite direction and just went for it, just had a go, but I slowly found that that dishonoured my clients as much as waiting for it to be perfect. Back then, I got the help I needed to strike the balance and learn to do it well, not perfectly, but done well and in a relatable way.

Then. And only then…

After that I implemented, practised, implemented again, took action, did it and sometimes didn’t, (which was a total nightmare by the way) and held myself accountable to others around me.

I know that Facebook lives look casual, but before I got to be casual, I had to get to what I wanted to share and why, here are three questions which helped

~ what about what I do makes me different?
~ what about how I do it makes me different?
~ why does what I do make a difference?

As a fairly intelligent and well informed business owner who knew what I wanted, I felt like I was being pulled in different directions, trying to brand myself and my message ‘properly’.

During my time working with one coach, I even came to the conclusion that because others are doing it (and seemingly successfully), I should too.

The problem was that I lost myself, my message and what I was really about, when I asked myself those 3 questions up there, I realised something very clearly.

Although Facebook lives are a small part of what I offer, it’s an important part, but here's what I realised…

You are far too brilliant to ‘have-a-go’, and so are your clients and what you share.

Jenny Kovacs ~ Visibility Specialist

PS What I also realised, was that true brilliance didn’t want to wait, and the most important thing about sharing is that you MUST do it as YOU not me.

The truth about giving up!

I’ve spent the last few months decluttering, searching deeply, asking important questions from myself and my life both personally and professionally. What I realised, is that there was one main thing I had to do, what was that?

I had to…

Give up.

Give up …assumptions.
Give up …wasting time.
Give up …seeking approval.
Give up …complaining (still working on that one).
Give up …spending time with people, places or things which don’t light me up.

That last one, has led to this piece, but let me say a little about the others first.

Assumptions ~ That others have it better, easier, by chance, entitlement or through something I assume I don’t have.

Wasting time ~ You’re likely bored hearing about the 5am stuff, but it’s been huge for me and even more huge thanks to Shaa Wasmund for this golden technique.

Seeking approval ~ checking with anyone else other than myself before doing anything, this is like kryptonite to confidence.

Complaining ~ about situations, events or occurrences especially complaining to a person who can’t put it right or do anything to alleviate or resolve my complaint.

Initially, “Give up spending time with people, places or things which don’t light me up” , looks pretty harsh, but here’s what it actually meant for me.

I decided this summer that I wanted to majorly declutter, I’ve decluttered before but this time I felt compelled and started from a place of, “How does the person who is x,y,z live, act or be? I started to look at my belongings and as I picked the items up, I asked myself a simple question, I asked myself how that item made me feel? The answers which came back were surprising.

You see, when you look at items in that way, you experience the overdue memories held, times when things ’should have been’, the clothing which when you wore it, made you feel less than, and the places you revisit which made your heart sink. That top I couldn’t wear comfortably without my bra straps showing and that favourite piece which had a little hole in it which I spent the whole time trying to disguise.

The books which sat on my shelf, got moved around from the marital home, into the separated and newly single pad and the really costly storage unit they lived in in between. The designer purse, a gift from bygone people, the copious notebooks filled with detailed notes, big dreams and careful plans, the pairs of shoes, everywhere especially the 10+ pairs in my car, which had itself become a storage unit and stark reminder of a life I no longer lived, a position I no longer held, a sector crippled into collapse, a reminder of the redundancy as my role became a victim of the economic financial ‘crisis’.

The bit that others don’t always get or think about though, are the people…

That final one, “Give up spending time with people, places or things which don’t light me up”

Initially “Give up spending time with people, which don’t light me up” looks pretty harsh, but here’s what it actually meant for me

We all know at least one person who can be either negative, spiteful, embarrassing, energy draining or unsupportive and we just don’t feel great around them, yet it’s common for people to choose to stay connected with those people in life and online and it was some of those traits I looked at with the filter of “how does the person who does x,y,z live, act or be?

Here’s the rub.

If you’re spending time with people who are negative, spiteful, embarrassing, energy draining, unsupportive or something else, you’ll feel these things more often at a time when it's likely you want to feel differently. When you’re stretching and looking to do new things you want to surround yourself with people who will cheer you on, support you and are completely in tune with what you’re looking to achieve. If not, you’ll find your confidence, tenacity, positivity, and will, being challenged. Sometimes, it’s ok to take a step back while staying in relationship with them, it's also important to know when to vet what you share with them too.

If they’re so negative and don’t get that stepping back piece, that’s ok too, you don’t need to absorb what’s not going to support you, and there’s no need to spend time or energy correcting, judging or 'fixing' them.

During the last round of decluttering, when I realised that my car mostly sat parked on the side of the road in London, was filled with old memories of an old lifestyle, and didn’t fill me with joy.

I gave that up too.

Once you're ready to step up and be even more visible there's a whole heap of people who are ready to support you, including me! Who do you want to be?

Monday Motivation - What Are You Tolerating?

If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito. - Betty Reese

In 2008 I recognised the stigma attached with a brand new week, often Mondays were met with dread, a feeling of overwhelm and a sense of being stuck or in a grind.

Not the best way to set yourself up for the day, let alone the week!

So I found ways to send motivational messages around the office to lift people up. In 2010 when I started my business, I was really keen to keep this up as a service to those who wanted it.

Today, I hope to bring the motivation to life, by creating the 10 minute space for you to activate your ability to today... Stop putting up with stuff!

____________

This week, I want to start by asking you a question, well two really...

What are you tolerating?

Or put another way,

What are you putting up with?

These questions are especially relevant, if you have big dreams, big plans, big ambitions to do the things in life we love, and this week I've heard a lot of different people, some are friends, some are coaching clients, all people who want to make a change to something in their life. They want to do something different, but somehow have felt like they can't.

Explore. Dream. Discover.  Written on a card given to me by a friend a year ago

So let's start with those 3 questions, yes you'll have to watch the video at around 3:50 to hear them. I then recommend writing down the answers on paper in a journal, a piece of paper or even the back of a envelope! Write it down, it's really important.

1) Is there a conversation that you need to have and you're avoiding right now? Is it with yourself or someone else or both?

2) What are you pretending not to know?

3) What aren't you being honest about with yourself?

Watch this weeks video to hear about my own personal account of back in 1993 and how I almost stopped myself. This is equally effective for any situation even those more seemingly serious work ones!

Once, and only once you've written down those answers, then go on to describe the situation or outcome you actually want.

Let me know how you use this nugget!

::: Why you're not just average :::

You say: I need to stand out from the competition, but there are hundreds of people who do what I do.

I say: Poppycock! (Or something a little more colourful)

When I pulled into one of the U.K.s average train stations, expecting to see 100's of trains which take you to 100's of destinations, I didn't expect to see this!

What if… ?

This train had considered itself 'the norm' just like all of the other trains in the station?

 It wouldn't have stood out!

With a few extra internal accessories, a colourful lick of paint and a unique name to personalise it all, this train got out there and stood out!

How do you stand out?

Do you try to whistle louder than the other trains or do you do something different, something uniquely you?

~ Facebook Visibility ~

I want to share something important with you in terms of Facebook visibility and it's this...

Numbers are not important in order for you to be seen by those you love or who love what you do!

A post which I love, and have shared on my public page has gone viral. This despite my likes (genuine likes, and not bought likes), Being under 1000.

It shows 3 things;

1. You don't need to have big numbers of likes to be seen and heard

2. It doesn't always have to be YOUR content, often posts which capture our imagination will capture those connected to us too

3. This isn't a numbers game, this is about building community. So it's likely that those who love you and what you stand for, will also love what you do AND what you share.

PS Here's the 'proof', as that's important for people to know too (obviously)

[The Truth Series] Raise your visibility so that others can find you

Visibility gets you out there, the VIBE get's you remembered

Truth: the whole truth & nothing but the truth

What it really means to be visible...

This month sees me going into my 5th year of business.

My business is now set up to work online and offline, from anywhere in the world (as long as I have an Internet connection).

Funnily enough this was not my original intention and sometimes felt like it just happened!

Many of the people I meet off-line and online often congratulate me on my business, my journey, my life, saying oh my gosh! You're doing so well!

Now, while that's true, it certainly isn't always all rainbows and butterflies, quantum leaps and 4 hour working weeks or 6 figure business with millions in the bank!

I'd describe GiFTWiSH, and my business as a journey, a real journey. Let's just think about this for a moment; that on some journeys we get a little lost, we take an early or late turn, we head in a different direction, or sometimes things just appear on our path.

Sometimes of those things, we're able to navigate around, over or even under them! Often we can fling the 'thing' in our path out of the way, yet other times they cause us to be seriously delayed or even causes a breakdown not necessarily of the nervous type, although at times... ;-)

During the the last few years in running my business there have been some beautiful highs and incredible lows. What I've come to realise is this:

1) they're unavoidable
2) they're gifts (sometimes in ugly wrapping)
3) they're useful real life lessons and ones worth sharing especially with you

Everyday in my life at large, I plead that I serve the people who touch me and my life to the best of my ability so that they can live their life to the best of their ability. I call that 'ability activating'.

Just this week someone who I helped said that I'd 'started a fire' in them. This actually made me whoop out loud, another recently said she wants 'Jenny on Tap' and a former client and her children often tell me that it's time for 'Jenny on the Telly' having viewed nearly 3 years of me on webinars, Skype, Livestream, YouTube and in recent years Google Hangouts.

Now this isn't a boast-post! It's a confirmation to me, and a public declaration to you of my desire to offer you real value and often, so here's what I'm going to do.

I'm going back to the start of my entrepreneurial, self employed business journey to share with you exclusively how to get you and your business out there to the right people.

AND

Most importantly;

WHAT true visibility is
WHY it matters
HOW to make it work for you

AND how you'll reap the benefits of making yourself visible so that the people you want to work with can find you more easily.

Sound good?

Ok let's begin!

I won't be sharing these gems as a public blog so get them into your inbox by clicking here
